More and more financial institutions are facing earnings pressure from increased loan losses, securities losses, and deposit insurance premiums.  This decrease in earnings has meant that many institutions are not fully utilizing their tax-exempt income and has prompted many to rethink their exposure to municipals and tax-exempt income in general.  Many institutions go into a Sub S conversion thinking they need to have more municipals in their portfolio when, in fact, they need to have fewer.  This program will examine a model that can be used to quantify the effect of various allocations to tax-exempts on after-tax income, dividend tax, the AAA account, and other factors.
