Supporting Documentation for the ALLL: What the Examiners Want

Thursday, March 27, 2008

12:00 – 1:30 PM Pacific Time           2:00 – 3:30 PM Central Time

1:00 – 2:30 PM Mountain Time        3:00 – 4:30 PM Eastern Time

Recent supervisory recommendations for financial institutions relating to the Allowance for Loan & Lease Losses (ALLL) deal with the methodology of the allowance as opposed to the adequacy.  Documentation is one of the keys regulators look for in an examination. In ALLL methodology regulators are looking for:

  1. Policies and procedures that describe how a bank segments its portfolio.
  2. Policies and procedures for determining how to measure the impairment of those loans that are individually evaluated, as per FAS 114.
  3. A methodology for how to determine and measure the impairment in groups of loans or portfolios of loans with similar characteristics as required under FAS 5.

This presentation will focus on developing support documentation of the ALLL analysis.
